Meatballs is what I like to have with rice or buckwheat. Sour and sweet test is perfectly matching with mash potato too. So it is really universal main dish.

Meatballs with Tomato Sauce (Tefteli)


• 2 lbs ground pork (or beef) 800 g / 1.5 Lbs
• 1 onion, blended 150 g / 3 oz
• 3 cloves garlic, blended
• 1/2 tsp each salt, grounded black pepper
• 1 egg 120 g / (option)
• 3 tbsp. vegetable oil for frying 30 ml / 1 fl oz
For souse:
• 1 carrot, peeled, cut (Julien) 150/
• can of tomato paste 375 ml /
• head of onion 150 g /
• 1/2 tsp each salt, grounded black pepper
• water


1. Blend your onion and garlic together into a paste, then get your other ingredients ready
2. Combine ground pork, onion, garlic, egg, salt, black pepper for the cutlets and gently mix together with your hands. Be careful, do not to over-mix the meat
3. Form the mixture into 15-20 ping pong-shaped patties
4. Fry them on medium heat for both side for 10 min on the fry pan with vegetable oil
Separately cook sauce:
In the 2-3 L fry pan
1. Add vegetable oil
2. Add chopped onion
3. Add cut carrot
4. Fry it on medium heat for 10-15 min.
5. Add tomato paste mixed with warm water (1:1)
6. Add salt and black pepper to test
5. Add precooked souse and stew another 15-20 min.
Good to serve with buckwheat and backed potatoes
